How to Get the Medusa's Head in Dragon's Dogma 2

Reading time: 1191
To acquire the Gorgon Medusa's head in Dragon's Dogma 2, you'll need to turn any character, monster, or creature into stone. Thanks to the Medusa's head, you can complete the side quest "In Search of Inspiration," gaining maximum rewards, and literally kill any opponent in the game with a single blow. To use the Medusa's head, make sure it hasn't rotted, is in your inventory, and is equipped. Selecting the head as a weapon, aim it at the desired target. As a result, the creature affected by the Medusa's head will turn into stone, enough to kill practically any monster in the game, including Drakes, Lesser Dragons, Cyclopes, Griffins, and so on.
Understanding how to sever the head from the Gorgon Medusa, as well as preserving and using it at the right moment, is crucial. Simply killing a Medusa in hopes of obtaining the head won't suffice. To begin with the process of acquiring the Medusa's head, you first need to know where to find the enemy.

Where to Find the Gorgon Medusa?

You will first encounter the Medusa at the beginning of the game, but the battle will end with the monster fleeing. The next time you can find the enemy is in the Bataille region. You need to head southwest from Bataille to the Windbluff Tower Nera'Bataille in the Dragon's Forest. As you ascend the trail marked on the map, you will begin to notice creatures turned to stone. If so, you are on the right path. Continue moving up the trail until you discover the entrance to the Medusa's Lair (Calyxian Depths).
Identifying the entrance to the right place is quite simple: two trees block the passage, forming a cross in front of the cave entrance.

How to Defeat and Obtain the Medusa's Head

To defeat the Medusa, it's sufficient to select any hero class (summoning) that has access to attacks/spells dealing electric damage. These include Warrior, Strider, and Fighter, which you gain access to not from the start, but after the first few side quests. When fighting the Medusa, avoid her gaze, and if necessary, use any objects to hide behind (simply turning away from the Medusa is not enough!).
You can also find a special bow called the Medusa's Magic Bow. The weapon drops after defeating the Medusa herself. Using this bow, you will gain additional experience for each killed opponent. Some achievements are also associated with the Medusa, and to collect all of them, you will need to use different approaches.
I recommend taking the Strider summon, as you will receive reinforcement in the form of energy. This will reduce the stamina loss necessary for a close combat character to climb onto the Medusa's back and cut off her head. The preparation process also involves finding suitable pawns. For example, you can find a mage with the "Sacred Lightning" weapon skill. Moreover, to avoid turning into stone, you should take with you items such as an antidote (to resist toxins) and a softening elixir. For stamina replenishment, you can take special pills.
Once you have gathered all the necessary items and elixirs, you can confidently enter the Medusa's Lair. To defeat her, aim at her head with any cold weapon. The amount of health she has left when you cut off her head will affect the quality of the head itself. In other words, the more you hit the head, the better the quality of this item will be. To approach the head, you can use the "Energetic" enhancement. You can use skills like "Powder Charge" or "Explosive Powder" to stun the Medusa. Once the Medusa is stunned, it will be easier for you to attack her head. In general, keep hitting the head, avoiding hits to other parts of the body. Eventually, you will cut off the head and earn the achievement "Off With Their Heads!". You will receive the preserved Gorgon's head. On the other hand, if you completely deplete the Medusa's health and only then cut off her head, you will get the rotten Medusa's head (without properties, impossible to restore).

How to Get the Preserved Medusa's Head

You need to attack the Medusa's head using a weapon with minimal damage. That is, it is important not the amount of damage inflicted, but the number of hits you will deliver to the Medusa. That's why I recommend using Pawns with weapon skills like "Lightning Strike". To reduce the damage inflicted by the Medusa, you can also wear a mockery ring, which you will receive after solving one of the Sphinx's riddles. If you manage to cut off the Medusa's head without causing her significant damage, you will receive the preserved Gorgon's head. Only in this case will you get the "Off With Their Heads!" achievement.
The Medusa's head is an item that decomposes over time. Therefore, the head should be stored in the hotel's storage or a purchased house and moved to the inventory only when you are going to use it.

Does the Medusa Respawn?

Yes, the Medusa can respawn, like almost any other enemy, so there is no need to worry if you don't receive the "Eye for an Eye" achievement/trophy after killing this monster (it's logical because you won't have the Gorgon's head). For the Medusa to respawn, you need to rest for 7-14 days in the hotel or on any bench and visit her habitat again. If you plan to use the Medusa's head frequently, you can install a return crystal in her habitat, and then use the teleport stone to get to the boss in one go.
To get the "Eye for an Eye" achievement, you must use the Medusa's head to destroy the Medusa herself, turning her into stone. It is advisable to have the preserved Medusa's head in your inventory, as the regular one will decompose after the first long rest (if in the inventory). Once the Medusa turns to stone, you will receive the "Eye for an Eye" achievement. Additionally, you can get this achievement without the Medusa's head. To do this, you need to use the "Daughters of the Evening" shield to reflect her deadly gaze.
You can find this shield in the storage of Vernworth Castle. Since only a Fighter or Warrior can use shields, you will have to temporarily switch to one of the mentioned vocations.
