Dragon's Dogma 2 features a day and night cycle, and the current time of day affects many aspects of the game. Some quests can only be completed during the day or night, and different, more dangerous monsters appear at night outside of towns and villages. In this guide, we'll explore six main methods to change the time of day in Dragon's Dogma 2.
Note: The standard day and night cycle in the game lasts about 50 minutes.
1. Resting at an Inn
Resting at an inn is the first way to change the time of day in Dragon's Dogma 2. Inns can be found in all major cities and some smaller settlements. For a small fee of a few hundred gold coins, you can rent a bed and rest until the desired time of day. Look for the "bed" icon on the mini-map and approach the NPC behind the counter. Talk to them and pay for your rest. The cost may vary depending on the location but usually ranges between 1500-2000 gold coins. Resting at an inn allows you to change the time to either morning or night, fully restore the health of all characters, and save your game progress.
2. Resting at Your Own House
Frequent stays at inns can quickly empty the main character's pockets. Instead of spending gold on lodging, you can buy your own house. Depending on your preference, you can spend either 20,000 or 300,000 gold coins on housing. While these are significant investments, they pay off in the long run, saving you much more gold. Like inns, you can rest in your own house until morning or night, fully restoring health and saving game progress.
3. Camping
Another way to change the time of day is to set up camp at a location marked on the map with a "campfire." These places are located outside of settlements. Similar to inns, camping allows you to save your game progress and fully restore health. To set up camp, you need a travel backpack, which you can either buy from merchants or find as loot in chests. Before resting at a camp, clear the area of mobs; otherwise, they may attack and disrupt your rest.
4. Time Skipping on a Bench
In all settlements in Dragon's Dogma 2, you can find numerous wooden benches that allow you to pass the time. The main advantage of resting on a bench is that it's entirely free. While sitting on a bench doesn't restore health, it gives you more flexible options and control over when to skip time. You can wait until noon, dusk, dawn, morning, or midnight.
5. Tavern Visit
Visiting a tavern is another way to pass the time in Dragon's Dogma 2. Approach the bartender, where you can order drinks or ask to pass the time. After each rest in the tavern, the time advances by approximately 6 in-game hours. You can check the current time in Dragon's Dogma 2 by accessing the pause menu and looking at the sundial display. The position of the sun at the top of the sundial indicates noon, while at the bottom indicates midnight. Similarly, when the sun is on the left side, it's dusk, and on the right side, it's dawn.
6. Resting on a Carriage
The final way to change the time of day in Dragon's Dogma 2 is to take a nap on a carriage with oxen. Carriages are the main means of fast travel. By sitting in one, you can doze off. If the carriage isn't attacked, the time will advance forward as many hours as needed to reach the intended destination. Even if the carriage is attacked, simply defeat the enemies, get back in, and doze off again.
Benefits of Changing Time
Many quests in Dragon's Dogma 2 depend on the time of day. Some quests must be completed as soon as possible; otherwise, they will fail over time. To refresh objectives in other missions, you may have to wait several days. Certain NPCs, like Mildred, appear after a certain amount of time, allowing you to complete their quest chains. Additionally, some missions can only be completed during daylight or nighttime hours. Moreover, some missions can only be started at specific times. If you arrive too early or too late, you may miss the quest giver or scripted event. Carriages, which cannot be used at night, also operate on a set schedule. Finally, more ferocious enemies appear in the open world at night. If you're having trouble with combat, it's best to wait until morning.
